A funeral at St Mary's is an occasion to give thanks for the life of the person who has died, to share memories and to bid them farewell. Together we celebrate love given and received and surround the family with care and concern. We pray for strength for days ahead as we commend our loved ones to the peace of God.

Two vergers will be in attendance to assist in the smooth running of the service and with seating arrangements.

Remembering Loved Ones

Prayers are said at services in the Church and at the Hall for those who have died.
Thereafter, on each anniversary of their funeral, their name is included in the prayers.

To help those bereaved, an annual service Remembering Together is held each autumn in the Church.

St Mary's Churchyard and Millennium Garden

Memorial Headstones
Regulations set by the Diocese of York restrict the type and size of gravestones that may be used to mark burial plots, and also the wording used on them. Please contact the Vicar before placing orders with Monumental Masons. Written permission must be obtained from the Vicar before the memorial is commissioned. Please read the Diocesan Churchyard Memorial Rules. Click here to download a copy from the Diocese of York web site. Please also read the St Mary's Church Yard leaflet, for more specific information about our church yard. [Download as PDF]

Cremated Remains
An area of the Millennium Garden is set aside for interment of ashes. Please contact the Vicar for details.
